With version 5.2 and now v5.3 the auto update of selected photos work fine., but when I change some metadata and manually want to update the message is "photo already up to date".

What triggers decision to update metadata by the tool? An option to always update when manually initiated would be handy.

Good idea - thanks: that'll be in next release.

Work-around for the time being: set 'ExifMeta Updated' field to blank (right panel, library module...) - that'll force the update.
