How to Get Started:

When you first 'Add' ExifMeta via the Plugin Manager (installation instructions are in downloaded readme file) there will be no exif metadata to select for inclusion. To get started:

  • Close the Plugin Manager.
  • Select some sample photos - maybe a few from each camera you own, and each type of image you manage. Its not really critical at this point - this just to get the ball rolling...
  • Select File Menu -> Plugin Extras -> RC ExifMeta -> Update Selected Photos.
  • When the Dialog Box asks you what to update, choose 'All Selected'.
  • When the update is complete, you will be given the option to view the log file. Whether you do so at this time is a matter of personal choice (I would), however if there are errors, then definitely do it.
  • Select File Menu -> Plug-in Manager and you should see the exif metadata that was read from the files that were updated. If you do not, then click the 'Refresh' button. If you still do not, then try clicking the 'Commit' button, and repeat. If you still do not, then try reloading the plugin, and repeat. If still no-go, then try exiting Lightroom and repeat. Usually all of this is not necessary, but I have seen it be a bit finicky at first. Please let me know if problems...
  • Check some items in the leftmost column and click 'Commit' then reload the plugin.
  • Close the Plugin Manager.
  • Select 'RC Standard' from the dropdown at the top of the Metadata section in the right-hand panel of the Library module. Scroll down to confirm exif metadata presence.
    Update some more photos...

If all went well, you should be able to see exif metadata in the library panel, library filters, and smart collections.

Note: As you update more photos, more metadata may be discovered. You will be notified when this occurs by way of warnings in the log file as indicated by a dialog box after update. When this happens, you can ignore the warning if you already have all the exif metadata you need or want, or return to the plugin manager to see what's new and maybe select a few more items to be included.

Enjoy!
